Mors Signet Style Ring
Mors(Latin) noun. Death.
Beyond its Latin meaning, Mors is the personification of death in Roman mythology, the inevitable end that comes for all living beings. Skulls were commonly worn in 16th- and 17th-century jewelry as a reminder of our own mortality: memento mori, Latin for "remember that you must die."
The center is oxidized to an almost black shade for a stark contrast, and each side is adorned with an hourglass above intersecting feathers, alluding to the notion that time flies. A reminder that our lives are fleeting, and to make the most of the time we have.
Inside, a solid sterling silver coin shows a cicada flying towards the moon. The moon is the alchemical symbol for silver, the metal we make our pieces in, and the cicada symbolizes rebirth, much like the long-forgotten stories Remains tries to bring new life to through our jewelry.

Although made in the style of a signet, the letters are readable rather than mirrored, so they will read backwards if pressed into sealing wax.

- Polish with a jewelry polishing cloth. Avoid brushing the recessed oxidized areas, silver dips, and polishing pastes to preserve the finish.
